Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

  • The legal system
  • Legal concepts and principles of Swedish legislation
  • General property law: Personality of laws, Contract law and Sale of goods legislation
  • Bankruptcy and liquidation
  • Labour law - Co-determination Law (MBL), Employment Law (LAS), and Law of Work Environment (AML); The Equal Opportunities Act
  • Association law – (company types)
  • Intellectual property right – protection of intellectual achievements within the industry with e.g. patent law, design protection and trademark law
  • Market law –  the Marketing Act, the Competition Act
  • IT law

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • describe the structure of the legal system
  • describe the fundamental features of the legislation process
  • explain the implication of basic legal concepts within the fields that are studied
  • interpret legal text in the statute book
  • solve simple legal problems by using the statute book
  • identify and analyse and apply adequate civil laws to solve legal problems

  • INL1 - Assignment, 1.0 credits, grading scale: P, F
  • TEN1 - Written examination, 5.5 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
