Nils Johansson , researcher in sustainability studies at SEED, is the recipient of Natur & Culture popular science work grant 2025.
The annual award supports projects that make scientific findings accessible to a broad audience. Johansson will use the award to write a cultural history of the plastic bag, following its journey from a Swedish basement invention to a global symbol of consumption, waste, and environmental debate.
The book aims to shed light on how a single everyday object can link questions of nature, consumer culture, politics, and materiality in a rarely explored way.
