Multifactor authentication (MFA)
Multifactor authentication (MFA) means that you log in in several steps: first with your KTH account and password in your browser, and then with approval via an app on your phone. MFA is mandatory for all KTH students from 1 September 2026.
About multifactor authentication (MFA)
Multifactor authentication, MFA is currently the single most important security measure to ensure that the right person is the one logging in – meaning that the person trying to gain access is indeed who they claim to be.
As a government agency, KTH needs to comply with security requirements from the Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency . Adding the MFA app to your phone and linking it to your personal KTH account is part of our security requirements and a necessary security measure to help protect the information managed by KTH.
