Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app in one of the following ways:
Search for “Microsoft Authenticator” in the App Store or Google Play, or alternatively scan a QR code or tap the direct links (using your mobile phone).
When you open the app, you may be asked about Microsoft’s privacy policy. Select Accept. After that, the app may ask about app data usage. Select Continue.
Allow the app to access notifications, the camera, and location when prompted.
Step 2: Sign in with your KTH account on your computer
Use a computer when performing the following steps.
Open the link
aka.ms/mfasetup
in a private window or incognito mode in the browser on your computer.
Enter your username followed by @ug.kth.se in the sign-in box (example: testjp@ug.kth.se).
You will then be redirected to KTH’s login service. Enter the password for your KTH account.
For this step, you will need both your computer and your mobile phone.
On your computer: Once you have signed in via your webbrowser, click Add sign-in method.
On your computer: Click Microsoft Authenticator.
On your computer: Microsoft Authenticator will now inform you that you need to install the app on your mobile phone, which you already did in Step 1 of this guide.
On your mobile phone: Open the Microsoft Authenticator app. If this is your first time using the app, select Scan QR code. If you already have accounts added in the app, tap the QR code icon at the bottom right of the app.
On your computer: Click Next in the box.
Using your mobile phone and computer: Scan the QR code displayed on your computer using your mobile phone.
On your computer: After you have scanned the QR code, click Next in the box.
Using your computer and mobile phone: The configuration will now test the authentication. A number will appear in your computer’s browser, and a push notification will be sent to your mobile phone asking you to approve the sign-in.
On your mobile phone: Enter the same number that is displayed in your computer’s browser and approve the authentication.
On your computer: After you have approved the authentication, a message will appear confirming that the notification was approved. Click Next to complete the configuration.
You can activate enforced MFA for your KTH account yourself before it becomes mandatory on September 1, 2026
