Content and learning outcomes
Course contents
Reading of simple texts, simple writing exercises, listening comprehension and simple dialogues based on everyday vocabulary and phrases. Basic grammar and pronunciation rules of the Swedish language Facts about Sweden, Swedish culture, society and technical development.
Intended learning outcomes
The intended learning outcomes for the course refer mainly to the level A1 according to CEFR, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and aim to strengthen the student's global competence.
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
Listening comprehension
1. Understand simple, slowly and clearly spoken Swedish on well-known subjects in everyday situations
Reading comprehension
2. Understand short, authentic, everyday texts consisting of simple sentences and common words
Spoken interaction
3. Participate in simple conversations in slowly and clearly spoken Swedish, by asking and answering simple questions within well-known everyday subject areas (a certain amount of help from the conversation partner is required)
Spoken production
4. Talk about and describe his/her close environment and people he/she knows, by means of simple phrases and sentences
Written production
5. Fill in simple forms and write short, simple messages with elements of awareness of elementary facts about Sweden
Language systems
6. Apply for the level adequately phonetic/orthographic, morphological, syntactic and lexical knowledge in the Swedish language

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
The examiner determines, in consultation with the KTH coordinator for support to students with disabilities (Funka), possible customized examination for students with any documented and permanent functional disability. The examiner may offer a different type of exam for re-examination of individual students.

The course uses continuous assessment in the form of written and oral assignments that should be prepared and presented in or outside class.The student is always entitled to supplementation, but must pass all examination parts within the prescribed time at an approved level to obtain a final grade.
The course also contains self-correcting tests that must be done between given dates.A student who fails one or more of these tests has the right to do a supplementary test at the end of the course.

In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used.
