The degree project in architecture is based on a Thesis booklet, an assignment that should deal with architectural issues and be able to be discussed in architectural terms.
The degree project gives the student the possibility to deepen and develop her/his architectural knowledge within a specific field, and the possibility to develop design research within the subject of architecture.
The degree project opens up possibilities for processing design problems, developing method, creating techniques and examining the dialogue between the student's own project and a broader architectural context.
To present the thesis project within the given time frame is part of the assignment (one semester).
After completing the degree project, the individual student should be able to
- Demonstrate how the degree project relates to a contemporary architectural context and contemporary architectural issues and demonstrate the scientific and artistic basis of the field as well as insight into relevant research and development work.
- Develop design strategies to create good quality design that consciously relates to historical and current artistic and scientific developments in the field of architecture.
- Formulate a clear research question and reflect on and develop working methods and design techniques and identify their need for further knowledge, thus demonstrating academic and professional competence as an architect.
- Handle complex contexts and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of programme/function, context and the technical aspects of the architectural profession and society's goals for economic, social and ecological sustainable development.
- Reflect on and evaluate the consequences of the degree project and reflect on and evaluate the knowledge acquired during the work on the degree project, as well as to critically reflect on and be able to position the specific starting points, problems and approaches of the project in relation to a broader contemporary architectural discourse and societal development.
- Present and communicate the results and insights of the thesis project in a clear and convincing manner within a set time frame.
