Course contents *

The course contains the following themes: assessment methods within architecture; theories on architectonic quality; quality assessments within architecture (for instance awards and competitions); the quality issue in architectural policies. The course literature consists of theses, articles, reports and architectural policies.

Intended learning outcomes *

The main objective of the course is to develop the student's ability to discuss, criticize, understand and assess quality in architecture.

After the course, students shall

- have knowledge of the concept of architectonic quality and its history

- be able to present how the concept of quality is used within architecture

- have developed the ability to understand and to conduct professional quality assessments

- through an individual written assignment have penetrated some core quality issues within architecture

Course Disposition

The course consists of lectures, exercises, excursions and an individual written assignment. The assignment is to be presented and discussed at seminars.  

Literature and preparations

Specific prerequisites *

120 hp högskolestudier inom arkitektur eller samhällsplanering.

Dokumenterade kunskaper i Svenska B/Svenska 3 och engelska A/Engelska 6 eller motsvarande.

  • MOM2 - Written Project, 2.5 credits, Grading scale: P, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

Other requirements for final grade *

To obtain final grade both course moments have to be passed, and 80% attendance on all tuition is required.
