Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The objective of the course is to train the students in theoretical and practical knowledge in specific components in urban design and focuses on handling the interplay between them. The course includes design theory as well as training in individual and group work and presentation techniques.

The intent is to deepen the knowledge and insights of the difficulties and possibilities of designing proposals that take into account the many facets of urbanity. The course will also give insights in the many interests and approaches in such projects, especially when it comes to the possibilities to integrate these in an urban structure.

Intended learning outcomes

The course presents students with an opportunity to explore deeper specific fields within urban planning and design, such as landscape design, traffic planning and real estate morphology. It also provides the understanding of the interplay between such fields through practical work. The overall theme of the course is sustainability, and all components will be studied in relation to that.

After completing the course the student shall

· Be able to define, investigate and explain different components in urban design

· Be able to apply knowledge of such components in design practice

· Be able to analyse a present urban situation and define the problem which needs to be handled

· Be able to present proposals for such components in standard documents (texts and diagrams)
