Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course is interdisciplinary and combines the field of architecture, architectural psychology and neuroscience. The course links the student's own experience of architecture to different theories of perception and neuroscience research through literature seminars and an individual assignment.

Intended learning outcomes

The objective of the course is to give the students insight in human experience of architecture and its importance for the design of architecture. The course introduces the students to different theories on the human perception of architecture and spatial behaviour based on neuroscience and architectural psychology. The overall aim is to introduce the students to new approaches to architectural design. After completing the course, the students shall be able to:

  • describe different theories about the human process of perception
  • link neuroscientific processes in the brain to the human perception of architecture
  • apply the new perspectives to the own pofessional work

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

Other requirements for final grade

The course contains two moments:

MOM1 (Literature seminars 3hp, grade PF) and

MOM2 (Individual assignment 3hp, grade PF).

To obtain the grade passed on the whole course, passed moments and 80% attendance on all tuition are required.
