Content and learning outcomes
Course contents
Lectures for the whole course 20 h:
- planning of road and railway infrastructure,
- environmental aspects on civil works,
- esthetical aspects on civil works,
- social aspects on civil works and
- maintenance and economy.
For every special project lectures in seminar format (20 h).
Intended learning outcomes
- In the form of a group project work give general knowledge on the laws, standards, conditions and solution methods used for the conceptual design of civil works for the traffic infrastructure
- In the form of a project work in a small group give knowledge on how to make a conceptual and a detailed design of one structure along the selected stretch of road or railway. The structure could be a complicated part of the road or railway, a tunnel or a bridge.
To present the projects orally and in written reports and to actively participate in seminars

Fluid Mechanics for Built Environment, Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, Structural Engineering Advanced course besides Risk and safety analysis.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

- PRO1 - Project, 4.5 credits, grading scale: P, F
- PRO2 - Project, 10.5 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F
Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
Other requirements for final grade
Participating in main project work written report and seminars (PRO1; 4,5 cr)
Written and orally presented project work for special project (PRO2; 10,5 cr)
Opportunity to complete the requirements via supplementary examination
Opportunity to raise an approved grade via renewed examination

- All members of a group are responsible for the group's work.
- In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used.
- In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
