Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

Accounting for real estate companies. Financial analysis and formulation of a development plan for a real estate company.

Intended learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to enable students to understand the methods used to analyze the financial health of a real estate company.

After the course, students will be able to

  • Analyze and interpret a company’s financial statements
  • Analyze the impact of national and international accounting norms on a real estate company’s financial statements
  • Identify and explain special accounting problems peculiar to real estate companies
  • Calculate and analyze the main financial ratios of real estate accounting statements
  • Analyze a company and use the results to formulate a multi-year development plan for an existing company

Analyze and explain the practical differences between and income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement

Literature and preparations

Specific prerequisites

For students not registrered on a KTH programme (180hp/300hp):

Completed upper secondary education including documented proficiency in English (IELTS, TOEFL el al. and university studies of at least 150 hp out of which 30 hp Economics and 15 hp in law.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
