Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

Themes: Concepts in relation to architecture, technology, society and economy. Program, concept and proposals. Design methods and design identity as market advantage. Tools for analysis, design and communication.

Elements: Project work in groups including studies of reference projects and practices. Study visits, lectures, individual in-depth report.

Intended learning outcomes

After finished course the participants should understand the importance of concepts and design as a value adding acitivity in project work within architecture and the building. The participants should have an overall understanding of a wide range of architectural concepts, and demonstrate in depth familiarity with selected approaches. The participants should understand how concepts support the formation of a building program in relation to client needs and the subsequent development into propositions for built projects. They should also be able to describe and evaluate the communication tools used in conceptual development.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Other requirements for final grade

Active participation in case-based group work and compulsory lectures.
Individual report is based on aspects of group work.
