This course gives a broad and critical introduction to the concept of the Anthropocene. It goes through the scientific bases of the new geological epoch and puts this in a larger social, political and historical context. The course also proivides a point of departure for thinking about the future of the environmental crisis and humans' role on the planet.

Intended learning outcomes
After passing the course, the student should be able to:
give an account of the meaning of the concept of the Anthropocene as a new geological era in a natural-science and social-science/humanities perspective
critically discuss political, social, material and historical dimensions of the Anthropocene
