Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The general aim of the course is to communicate knowledge of how technical production systems can be analysed, evaluated and improved based on an environment and sustainability perspective.

Intended learning outcomes

- Describe and use the concept sustainable development based on different models, perspectives and definitions.

- Describe and explain basic global and national environmental problems and environmental goals.

- Describe and identify safety aspects and risks for the operation of specific technical production systems

- Be familiar with laws and regulations in the environmental arena

- Be able to define and explain fundamental concepts in environmental technology from an industrial perspective in connection to water treatment, waste management and flue gas treatment

- Describe, compare and analyse technical solutions in production systems based on environmental impact and sustainability

Course Disposition

The general aim of the course is to communicate knowledge of how technical production systems can be analysed, evaluated and improved based on an environment and sustainability perspective.

The course is organised around a larger project work, where lectures and seminars should give input to this work as well as be a support for studies of literature in the area.

  • PRO1 - Project, 3,0 hp, betygsskala: P, F
  • SEM1 - Seminars, 1,0 hp, betygsskala: P, F
  • TEN1 - Written examination, 2,0 hp, betygsskala: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

The course is assessed through a larger project work (report and presentation) (PRO 1), participation in seminars and study visits (SEM 1) as well as a written examination (TEN 1).
