Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course is given as a distance course with video lectures and mandatory web-seminars that require active participation. The course includes own literature studies and assignments to hand in before and after seminars. Oral presentations of course assignments as well as peer review of other students’ assignments are also included. 

  • Definitions of health, well-being and sustainability 
  • How leadership affects health and sustainability 
  • Research based approaches to systematic work environment management 
  • Examples of leadership interventions and change management that contribute to employee health, well-being, productivity and sustainable work for the individual, as well as for the organization. 

Intended learning outcomes

The students shall after their studies be able to:

  1. analyze and reflect on how leadership impacts employee health and sustainable work.  
  2. analyze and reflect on employee health from a system perspective
  3. analyze and reflect over how work organizations can implement systematic work with work environment management

Literature and preparations

Specific prerequisites

Exam of at least 120 p from Swedish university or corresponding exam from another country within one of the fields health science, engineering or social/behavioral sciences or another relevant exam. Alternatively, at least two years of work life experiences of work environment related questions as a manager or as a specialist in, for examples, HR or Occupational health services.

Examination and completion

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

Other requirements for final grade

For final grades, the final report made within the framework of the course is required to be presented by the course participant at a seminar.
