Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

In order that the student shall have

* deeper understanding of the field communication, media technology and theory

* deeper understanding of institutional, social and technical conditions for media production and media use

* deeper understanding of modern theory on mediated communication and other technical, communicative and socio-cultural processes.

The course gives a deeper understanding of the interdisciplinary field communication, media technology and theory. The course covers practical and theoretical aspects of communication, media technology and communicative systems, as well as the relation between social and technical factors for the development and use of media technology and communicative systems. The course contains practical and laborative parts where students use and learn to master different communication and media technologies. The course also contains parts dealing with identifcation of problem and the significance of innovation, which is central to their future professional life as engineers and/or high school teacher in natural science and technical subjects.

Intended learning outcomes

After completed course the student shall

* be well prepared to understand and competently master communicative situations and different media technologies in future education and professional life

* be able to describe questions within the field communication, media technology and theory in a reflective and methodical way

* be able to read and understand research literature in the field communication, media technology and theory.

Specific prerequisites

Completed upper secondaty education including documented proficiency in Swedish corresponding to Swedish B and English corresponding to English A. For students who receive their final school grades after 31 December 2009, there is an additional entry requirement for mathematics as follows: documented proficiency in mathematics corresponding to Mathematics A.

Recommended prerequisites

Kurserna 2A1500/ED1100 Engineering Science; SA1000 Science, Technology and Learning I; UCK200 Teacher Commission and Professional Teacherhood I; UPK 300 Theories of Learning och DD1311 Programming Techniques with PBL.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
