Course contents
Conference participation, paper proposals, reviews, conference presentations, popular communication and interaction, popular presentations and texts.
Lecturers will be Maja Fjaestad, Peter Larsson, Dolly Jörgensen and Per Lundin. We will also make a visit to Ny Teknik when discussing popular media.
Peer feedback is an important part of the course as we focus on the process and tools behind academic writing.
Intended learning outcomes
After completing this course the students should be able to
- write an abstract for an international conference
- present their research at a conference
- plan and partly to write an article for a scientific journal
- review an academic book for a scientific journal or similar
- present their own research for a non-academic audience through a popular science article , or similar.

Eligible applicants are students who meet the requirements for admission to graduate/PhD studies in history or other humanities and social sciences. We recommend that students have taken "Introduction to PhD training" or otherwise acquired the equivalent knowledge.

Kursen bygger inte i första hand på att vi diskuterar klassiska texter som vi har läst utan på att vi skriver olika texter som vi sedan diskuterar. Vissa texter kommer dock att distribueras som förberedelse för ett visst moment. Detta kommer att ske under kursens gång.

- The Rhetoric of PowerPoint/ Jens Kjeldsen
- Extract from Style: Lessons in Clarity and Grace /Joseph M. Williams & Joseph Bizup

Examination
Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

Other requirements for final grade
Active participation (80 %) in seminars and written examination in the form of an independent paper proposal for a conference, review, conference presentation, popular presentation or text.
Opportunity to complete the requirements via supplementary examination
