Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course consists of two parts: one theoretical, 3.5 credits, with literature studies and discussion of theories and models and one project assignment, 4.0 credits.

The theory studies will be concentrated to eight themes:

  • Gender, Work and Family.
  • Gender, Organization and Management.
  • Gender and Higher Education.
  • Gender, Welfare and Power.
  • Gender, Philosophy and the Man of Reason.
  • Masculinities.
  • Intersectionality.
  • Gender Theory Classics.

The aim of the project assignment is to study an organization from a gender perspective.

Intended learning outcomes

The objective of the course Gender, Work and Education is to provide the participants with a fundamental understanding of modern gender theory, its challenges and opportunities, and how to put theory into practice. Beside the theoretical foundation the course will consist of several practical applications.

The course objectives will be achieved through three sub-goals:

  1. To introduce gender theories and models.
  2. To use the theories and models to identify gender structures in organizations.
  3. From the theoretical platform suggest organizational change.

The course Gender, Work and Education will give the participants a basic knowledge in gender theories and models. The course objective is that the understanding of theories and models related to gender should enable the participants to develop gender equality in organizations.

    Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

    The examination will consist of written assignments that will be completed continuously during the course and a project that will be reported at the end of the course.
