The student will take part in the development of experiments and hands-on activities based on the ongoing projects at House of Science. This means that the student will prepare and perform oral presentations, as well as practical demonstrations, supported by appropriate visual media (Power Point presentations, posters etc). The course could include the development of laboratory experiments. Planning and performance of informative guided tours is another part of the course. Literature about Science communication and Teaching science is included and will be provided. A certain level of information searching is also part of the course.

Course aims:
The aim of the course is to develop the practical pedagogic skills of research students from the School of Biotechnology. The course will give insight into how to employ pedagogic methods to share biotechnology knowledge in an efficient way through oral presentations, seminars, guided tours, practical demonstrations etc. After completed course the PhD students should have gained methodology and confidence as a scientific presenter. The course aims to prepare PhD students for future requirements to perform scientific presentations, and give seminars in an informative and “selling” manner.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
Other requirements for final grade
Examination is based on an oral examination by the examiner about the practical pedagogic methods that was used. A written report, describing the pedagogical efforts used and including an interview-based evaluation of how the information was received by the target group, is required as part of the examination.
