Intended learning outcomes

The course gives students basic theoretical and practical knowledge about the latest research findings in multisensory perception and cross-modal interaction.

The goal of the course is

  • to gain relevant knowledge of the state-of-the-art in the research fields of multisensory perception and cross-modal interaction
  • to take into account relevant properties and issues related to multisensory perception and cross-modal interaction
  • to use the gained knowledge for identifying important issues related to perception in the design and evaluation of new technical solutions

·      C Spence and J Driver, editors, Crossmodal Space and Crossmodal Attention, Oxford University Press, 2004

Selection of scientific publications.

Examination and completion

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Grading scale

P, F

Examination

  • EXA1 - Examination, 7.5 credits, grading scale: P, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

The examination form will vary according to course content and student interest. Possible forms include for example a short research project, or a written overview of the literature in a specific area of multisensory perception and cross-modal interaction. Oral presentation is always part of the examination.

Other requirements for final grade

The student must give a 1-hour public seminar, and hand in a written report.

The seminar should:

  • give an overview of current trends in multisensory perception and cross-modal interaction
  • focus on methods and technology for the analysis and/or design of multisensory perception and cross-modal interaction
  • discuss advantages of and examples when leveraging multisensory perception and cross-modal interaction

Examiner

Ethical approach

  • All members of a group are responsible for the group's work.
  • In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used.
  • In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
