This course provides an overview of light-scattering properties of rough surfaces, electromagnetic light scattering models, and how to quantitatively measure the surface roughness through integrated or angle resolved light scattering. Initially surface terminology is treated, than surface roughness, optical effects of surface roughness and measurement techniques to measure the actual micro-topography of surfaces. Then light scattering theories for rough surfaces is discussed and some statistical characteristics of certain surfaces are shown. Finally, the influence of the wavelength, from X-rays to infrared is presented and th book concludes with some practical advice on how to clean surfaces. The book "Introduction to Surface Roughness and Scattering," 2nd ed., by Jean M. Bennett and Lars Mattsson, can be lent by Lars Mattsson
