To meet the requirements for a master degree the thesis should be part of a deeper study at advanced level in the main field. This means that the thesis must be completed in the main field of study. The work can be carried out at KTH or externally. The student is supervised during the work by supervisors at KTH and for external projects also by a supervisor at the site where the work is done.

Intended learning outcomes
- After the course the student should:
be able to apply relevant knowledge and skills acquired during the education to a given problem - within established limits, and with limited information, be able to independently analyze and discuss complex issues and deal with major problems at advanced level within the main field
- demonstrate ability to reflect upon and critically review own and others' scientific achievements
- be able to document and present the work with high demands on structure, formality and language processing
- demonstrate an ability to identify the need for further knowledge and take responsibility for developing own knowledge

At least 60 credits in the Master´s program must be completed, including 30 credits of specialization at the advanced level in the main field.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
