Intended learning outcomes
The main purpose of the course is that the student will have a basic knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing methods used in the manufacturing industries of today.
After the course the student will be able to:
- Describe properties and field of application of the most common engineering materials
- Explain how properties and fields of application interact for the most common engineering materials
- Describe common manufacturing methods
- Explain in which connection these manufacturing methods are used and which prospects or limitations they have
- Analyze a problem associated with a product and propose material and manufacturing methods also taking economic an eviromental aspects in consideration.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Examination
- LAB1 - Laboratory Work, 1.5 credits, grading scale: P, F
- TEN1 - Examination, 6.0 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F
Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

Passed exam (TEN1; 6 cr.) mark A-F
Passed lab works and exercises (LAB1; 1,5 cr.) mark P/F
Opportunity to complete the requirements via supplementary examination
