LD1002 Environmental Psychology and behavior analysis 4.0 credits

Our climate is changing, but how can we change our behaviors? Sustainability requires that individuals and businesses take action to change behaviors and habits that harm the environment. In this course, you will learn a set of psychological strategies for promoting and maintaining sustainable behavior change. You will learn techniques for transforming intentions into actions and how we can educate and encourage those around us to engage in sustainable behaviors.

Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

  • The course brings up environmental psychology concepts and theories with a focus on strategies that could be implemented to create more sustainable behaviours.
  • Lectures and exercises about consumption behaviour, energy usage behaviour, attitudes, decision making and environmental psychology concepts.
  • Case task with the aim to design an intervention to improve the target group's behaviour with respect to environmental impact.

Intended learning outcomes

1.Understand and explain psychological mechanisms that influence consumption and energy usage behaviour, and other behaviours with environmental impact.

2. Analyse how attitudes, cognition and social context influence decision-making and behaviours connected to sustainable development.

3. Give an account of and discuss sustainable development based on environmental psychology theories and research results.

4. Create strategies to be able to change attitudes, decision making and behaviours that are connected to environmental impact.
