Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course builds on the lower-level course, with further study of the most common and most important sentence patterns in everyday spoken Standard Chinese, and further expansion of a central vocabulary of words and characters. In addition, the students practice using Chinese dictionaries. Chinese society and culture, and the country's technical development, are covered. The course contains about 270 new characters.

Intended learning outcomes

The expected learning outcomes for the course mainly refer to the level A1, with certain elements of A2, according to CEFR, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

On completion of the course, the student should, in addition to what is specified in courses at lower levels, be able to:

  • identify tones and syllables in clearly spoken Standard Chinese
  • understand and use simple sentence patterns in speech and writing
  • understand and read aloud certain simple texts
  • use Chinese dictionaries and character dictionaries
  • participate in simple, clearly spoken, everyday conversations at a slow pace
