The course builds on the lower-level course, with further study of the most common and most important sentence patterns in everyday spoken Standard Chinese, and further expansion of a central vocabulary of words and characters. In addition, the students practice using Chinese dictionaries. Chinese society and culture, and the country's technical development, are covered. The course contains about 270 new characters.
