Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course aims to let the student practice skills that are important for working in projects that are

challenge-driven, as well as to provide a deeper understanding of project management and aspects of group dynamics.

The course provides basic knowledge about the role and responsibility of technology for sustainable

development including economic, ecological and social aspects. The projects/challenges

are multidisciplinary, geared towards areas related to technological development. The course contains:

• Sustainable development and the role of technology

• Introduction to and application of project management

• A project focused on sustainable development

• Literature searching and reference management

• Self-reflection based on group dynamics and processes

• Report writing

• Oral presentation

Intended learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student shall demonstrate proficiency and ability by

  • 1. planning and executing a group project that addresses a societal challenge with sustainable development as the fundamental objective, within a set time frame, applying a suitable type of project management.

  • 2. identifying relevant information, critically assessing it, and using the information to solve problems creatively.

  • 3. showing good ability to demonstrate acquired knowledge, processes, results and conclusions of the project work, in both speech and writing.

Values and approaches by:

  • 4. combining different disciplines within the project and relating the proposed solutions to sustainable development and societal needs.

  • 5. evaluating the group's work processes and the student's own effort, project management tools, and ability to stimulate their own performance and that of the group.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
