Lectures, seminars and workshop dealing with the concepts of technical creativity, innovation and innovation management in a technology-intensive economy, with a particular emphasis on linking this to current state-of-the-art theory in the intersection between technology and social theory. The lectures will focus on giving an advanced, high-level understanding of the field whilst retaining a pragmatic perspective. Subjects handled will include conceptual analysis of the field, critical engagements with the theory surrounding the phenomena, the ontological and epistemological issues underlying a study of innovation as well as the lived practice of innovation. Participants will then develop these strands in seminars, workshops and an individual essay.

Intended learning outcomes
After the course, the participants should be able to:
- complete a technical innovation analysis of e.g. a product development project
- be able to chart the innovation context of a technical product, including
- end-user and project-owner analyses
- make an economic analysis of the socio-economic framework in which a technical innovation exists
- show that she understands the ontological presuppositions of innovation
- devise an original methodology for the continuing study of innovative practice
