Many study programmes at KTH end with an independent scientific work, a degree project. In our Master of Science and Master of Engineering programmes, students write a thesis covering one semester of full-time studies, i.e. 30 higher education credits. Many theses are carried out in collaboration with an external organisation, such as an industrial company. The requirements for a master's thesis are high, both in terms of scientific rigour and engineering problem solving. Therefore, in order to start a degree project, a completed course in scientific method and philosophy of science is required. At the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, students are also required to prepare a concrete and scientifically based description of the upcoming degree project, a so-called "thesis proposal", before starting the work.
This course prepares you for your upcoming degree project by:
1. Actively following an ongoing degree project
2. Reading and analysing the final report of this degree project,
3. Participating in the seminar where this degree project is presented,
4. Participating in two further final presentation seminars.
