Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The first part of the course contains methods and theories for analysing general trends in macroeconomic variables, such as unemployment, interest rates, investments and saving. The other part of the course focuses on macroeconomic growth, including endogenic growth based on human capital, R&D and innovation.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course you should be able to:

  • Define, calculate and reflect on important macroeconomic aggregates, such as GDP, unemployment and inflation
  • Identify and assess the causes to and the consequences of unemployment and inflation and their interplay
  • Analyse economic growth by means of exogenous and endogenous growth models
  • Use relevant macroeconomic models to assess different macroeconomic phenomena
  • Reflect on the importance of monetary and fiscal policy for short-term and long-term economic development

Literature and preparations

Specific prerequisites

At least 180 credits of higher education, of which at least 30 credits within mathematics/economics and documented proficiency in English B, or the equivalent.

Recommended prerequisites

A completed Bachelor's degree including at least 30 credits in mathematics/economics and documented proficiency in Swedish B and English B or equivalent (TOEFL, IELTS eg).
