The Bachelor's work in Design and Product Development (C-level) will demonstrate independence and engineering skills. Proposals for projects will be presented in the introduction of the course. Briefings from the projects are held during the course. The project must hold a technical level and communicate through text and images. During the initiation of Bachelor course is a teaching moment given in visualization and communication. Here the student is trained in technical and visual skills in 3D graphics and presentation software. The visualization course gives an understanding how too choose apprpriate media and communications methods. Teaching is given in classes and in small groups and each student report individually. In connection with the completion of the study period 3 there is a presentation, where the student shows his or her skills in the visualization programs.

The Bachelor thesis work may be performed individually, but is performed advantageously in a group of two students, not more. In connection with the completion of project in the end of period 4 there is a presentation of the report with the opposition. In addition to presenting their own candidate's work, the student should opposite on the report to another candidate's work,  and perform a written opponent´s report. Each candidate's work are also rpresented in a separate poster presentation at the end of the semester.

Course contents *

The work in the Bachelor’s course Design and Product Development (C-level) will demonstrate independence and engineering skills. Briefings from the projects will take place throughout the course.   The course introduces students to visualization and communication, training technical and visual skills in 3D graphics and presentation software. The visualization course also teaches students how to choose appropriate media and communications methods. Teaching is given in classes and small groups and each student reports individually. On completion of Study Period 3, each student makes a presentation demonstrating their skills in the visualization programs.

Intended learning outcomes *

On completion the candidate's work in Industrial Design student should be able

  • Independently develop and present a problem, from idea to product suggestions. This requires the student to have gained an insight into and an understanding of the genesis process in its various phases and to understand the user or customer's requirements and preferences, spoken as well as unspoken.

  •  Apply and integrate knowledge and skills acquired during their studies, focusing on  problems in their chosen field of specialization

  •  Present a written technical report meeting the requirements on content, structure and language, and give an oral presentation.

Course Disposition

The course is conducted over periods of three and four, in the spring semester in year three of program design and product realization. At the beginning of the course is taught in 3-D modeling and poster presentation.

The courses HM1025, ME1001, MF1040/MF1014, MH1005, SD1115 shall be finished.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

The Bachelor thesis work is usually done in pairs, although it can be performed individually. On completion of the project at the end of Study Period 4, there is a presentation on each report with opposition from the other students in the class.  Each candidate's work is also represented in a separate poster presentation at the end of the semester.
