Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course aims to:

- provide students with knowledge of what characterises frugal innovation and design and, through examples, understand how these can support a green and just transition

- give students the opportunity to explore different situations/opportunities/needs where there is potential for frugal innovation and design solutions

- give students access to tools, methods and the opportunity to analyse, identify and develop their own prototypes based on their own idea of frugal innovation and design solution

Intended learning outcomes

After passing the course, the students should be able to:

1. describe the characteristics of frugal innovation and design, and their role in a sustainable and fair transition.

2. analyse and identify opportunities and needs where frugal innovation and design can be useful.

3. apply methods and frameworks that support the development of frugal innovation and design.

Achieved the requirements for a bachelor's degree in engineering, science.

  • PRO1 - Project assignment 1, 2.0 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F
  • PRO2 - Projekt assignment 2, 0.5 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
