Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

One common theme within which the students have to find and formulate their own problem statement

Inspirational lectures on the given theme

Supporting lectures on scientific work: information search and retrieval, scientific work methodology, scientific writing, etc.

Oral presentation at seminars

Throughout the entire course: Independent work on problem statement, information search and retrieval, project planning, oral presentations and thesis writing

Intended learning outcomes

After passing the degree project course, the student should be able to:

- formulate problem statement/research question and use scientific methodology in the area of production engineering

- apply knowledge and skills acquired during studies, on a problem related to the given theme

- plan one's own work to ensure that given milestones will be reached

- identify the need for scientific information, carry out information search and retrieval and critically review the retrieved information

- present the work in a technical report that fulfills the given requirements on contents, structure and language

- in the report, refer to sources, figures, tables and formulae, in an established way

- write a summary of the report in English with correct use of the terminology of the subject

- carry out oral presentations with requirements on keeping to time limits, clear contents, language, delivery and illustrations

- review and comment on a technical work and be able to respond to criticism on ones own work
