MG2209 Advanced Manufacturing Processes 11.5 credits
This course has been discontinued.
Last planned examination: Spring 2025
Decision to discontinue this course:

Conventional manufacturing is being rapidly replaced by new, fast-response, customer focused methods that maximize capital, materials, equipment facilities, time and especially human resources. During a manufacturing process, we add, subtract, or form materials in order to give a desired shape/property to the work piece. Therefore, different manufacturing processes, manufacturability of a material, processing tools, environmental aspects, etc., have become important issues for manufacturing processes. This course addresses these issues in a systematic manner. The course contains the underlying theory and principles about advanced manufacturing technology, where the technology can be used and what conventional process it may replace. Innovative topics are discussed in high speed machining, micromachining, metal deposition methods and surface integrity analysis, machine diagnostics, super abrasive technology, virtual reality and rapid prototyping.
