Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

This course builds upon knowledge in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and electrical engineering with emphasis on technical aspects of energy processes and/or energy systems with industrial relevance. The following topics are covered:

  • Energy situation in Sweden, Europe, and the world
  • Primary energy sources and their conversion: fossil fuels, solar energy, wind power, hydropower, nuclear power, bioenergy
  • Distribution systems for electricity, heat, cooling, and pressurized air
  • Energy utilization in industry and the built environment
  • Energy utilization for transportation
  • Environmental impact of energy systems

Intended learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

1. Explain and analyze energy conversion processes linked to primary energy sources and how the converted energy is distributed.
