Intended learning outcomes

The aim of the course is that the student should obtain understanding of and tools for supply chain management in technology-intensive sectors, but also that they should realise how these theories and tools can be applied in service-producing supply chains.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Define Supply Chain Management (SCM) and give example of supply chains for physical products
  • Survey and analyse cooperation between different parts of an organisation as well as between different companies within a supply chain for physical products
  • Explain the effect of information sharingas countermeasure to the Bullwhip effect
  • Evaluate various types of inventory control in a supply chain, such as for instance Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI)
  • Describe operational procurement processes and be able to explain procurement related terms
  • Survey and assess different producing companies' supplier networks based on Kraljic's matrix

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
