Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course comprises studies and evaluations of applied practical elements. Local practice is integrated into the course.

The course consists of the following different, but intertwined parts:

Methodology 4,5 hp

Methods and applications. Practical problem solving inclusive problem identification, construction and evaluation. Theories on knowledge and practical learning.

Applied theory 3 hp

Teacher guided experimental activity. Identification, construction and solution of tasks that deal with technical principles and scientific phenomena. Deeper cross-disciplinary studies in physics, chemistry and technology, particularly within the themes Earth, Fire, Air and Water. The experiment as a method. Introduction to popular science literature as a resource for teaching, with the aid of Science Center.

Teacher sit in Local practice 1.5 hp

Meeting, within a pedagogical model, with people of different ages and with different background in learning environments that are technically or scientifically oriented. Supervision by pedagogical personnel from Science Center. Practice in interactive communication in large and small groups with aid of demonstrations/laboratory experiments and other activities.

Intended learning outcomes

The purpose of the course is to orientate the students in and help them to apply the experimental way of working and to analyse its advantages and drawbacks. The students will also attain a deeper knowledge which will provide them with performing skills in learning situations.

The students will be introduced to the experimental method in order to maintain and develop teaching with the purpose to increase the spread of knowledge and interest in natural science phenomena and technic.

The overall ambition with the course is that:

• The students will make conscious didactic preferences in reference to national and local steering documents

• The students will learn about and apply a model where the experiment as a method is in focus for communication and learning

• Give the students a tool to use in their future pedagogical professional role

• Identify technology and natural science as subjects for deeper knowledge and school subject in relation to other fields of knowledge and to the surrounding society.
