Course contents *

The course is based on the following three main topics:

  • hydrostatics and stability
  • resistance: phenomena and analysis methods
  • sail and screw propulsion
  • initial naval craft design

Further an introductive overview of naval systems is given for instance by guest lectures from the industry.

Intended learning outcomes *

The course will give the student basic knowledge of the mechanics of naval crafts – stability, resistance, sail and propeller propulsion. Course participants will gain theoretical knowledge, and through assignments gain practical skills, of modern analysis methods.
