The course treats supply and demand, equilibrium prices, price regulations, elasticity, utility theory and consumers' choice including decisions under uncertainty, insurance demand, production decisions of companies under perfect competition, monopoly and imperfect competition, general equilibrium, efficiency and allocation, taxes and public consumption, national accounting, aggregated demand, multiplier and accelerator effects, monetary and central bank policies, inflation, unemployment and fiscal policy, international trade, balance of payments, exchange rates.

Intended learning outcomes
To pass the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- explain central micro and macro economic concepts and theories
- apply economic theory on simple national economic problems, especially connected to insurances
To receive the highest grade, the student should in addition be able to do the following:
- Combine all the concepts and methods mentioned above in order to solve more complex problems.
