The new R&D Centre will employ approximately 200 full-time employees from Sweden and China by the end of 2013.

Now they are here reaching out to you, so do not miss the chance to get to know Geely!

What to do after being admitted?

After a long period of admission and selection process, it is time to start to prepare your trip to Sweden! Still, I would like to share some information and my experience that hopefully you will find useful. :D

1: Pay the tuition fee: Unlike the application fee, which is paid to University Admissions in Sweden, tuition fees are paid directly to the university the student plans on attending. For more information, please click HERE.

2:Accommodation:  It is very difficult to find an apartment in capital cities like Stockholm. But KTH gives a great offer to tuition fee paying students that they can rent the apartments from KTH.  And now it is time to apply for an apartment. Tuition paying Master´s students and Master´s students holding a scholarship need to  submit your application to KTH Accommodation before 31 May

3: Estimate your living costs in Sweden: Here are some information you can check to estimate your living costs in Stockholm: KTH official detailed information  and one of my old post Living expenses.

5: Residence permit for studying: If you have decided to come to Sweden for your master’s studies, then after paying the tuition fees, it is time to apply for a residence permit for studying. Detailed information from Swedish Migration website.

6: Checklist: KTH provides you a very clear checklist for newly admitted students, check it out!

Some information for finding apartments in Stockholm

It is very difficult to find an apartment in capital cities like Stockholm. But KTH provides a great offer to fee-paying international students that they can have the apartments for two years.

The new students for autumn term are coming in the August. Welcome!

For students who need to find an apartment, now is time to make sure that you have got an apartment. If not, I suggest you to contact the accommodation office of KTH and ask them if there are ways to get help in later time.

Meanwhile, help yourself out by searching from some of the students’ accommodation companies. Contact with them and ask them if they can provide you any accommodation.

http://www.sssb.se is the most popular student accommodation and it is not easy to get an offer from them. The waiting time is high for this company. However, I recommend you to register in their website, because it will help you to get a good accommodation later on.

Links below are some of the students’ accommodation companies:

Campus Roslagen: http://www.campus-roslagen.se

Huddinge kommuns fastighetsbolag: http://www.huge.se/student/index.asp

Kista studentbostäder: http://www.kistastudentbostader.se/

Proventum: http://www.proventum.se/

Ekenman Fastigheter: http://www.ekenman.se/

studentlya.nu: http://www.studentlya.nu/

Svenska Studentbostadsföreningen: http://www.sokstudentbostad.se/

Studenthemmet Tempus: http://www.studenthemmettempus.se/

Vasakronan: http://www.vasakronan.se/sv/Bostad/Studen-flats/

Most of the above mentioned companies have their home page in English and you should contact them personally if you want to rent an accommodation or have information.

You may also sublet accommodation from private persons. The advertisement for subletting and second hand accommodation can be found at,

http://www.kth.se/student/studentliv/bostad/formedling

http://www.blocket.se

http://www.studentlya.nu/

For the second hand contact or sublet accommodation, DO NOT pay before you get the key. There has been a lot of fraud regarding this.

Good luck! :)

Geely Car Competition — Win a trip to China!

car

Known for the acquisition of the former Swedish Volvo Car Corporation, Geely is one of the leading car manufacturers in China. I have introduced Project China in my previous posts: the largest student project with international focus in Sweden. It was established in 2003 with the purpose to discover more about the development of modern China and encourage further collaboration between Sweden and China, for students as well as businesses.

This year, Geely is holding in cooperation with Project China launches a car design competition where you can present your ideas on what future cars could look like — design a next generation car! Geely wants to find  the creativity of the students at one of the best technical universities in Sweden which comes to KTH students! Competing teams may consist of up to 4 people and is only open to students at KTH :)

In doing this, the top prize is a trip to China for everyone in the team including visa fees, airplane tickets and living in a nice hotel. You also get to visit the Headquarters of Geely to learn about their company hands on.

Do not miss the good opportunity and take part in the coolest car design competition ever!

KTH Robot project

Each year a select group of students studying mechanics at KTH build a robot together. This year the students decided to dedicate the robot to indie-superstar Robyn (who´s one of the most famous artists in Sweden). The reason for this is Robyn’s obvious love for robots for writing several songs about them, such as ”Fembot”, ”Robot Boy” and ”The Girl And The Robot”. The main goal for this project is for Robyn to embrace and interact with the robot, both physically and digitally.

She came to KTH last Friday and all the students got really excited. Have a look at the film of pop star, our beloved Robyn!

Check out more information about the PROJECT. Also take a look at what Robyn says on the blog! :)

My new blog film — KTH Innovation

In one of my previous posts, I have mentioned that I had a chance to make a new blog film and here you are: this short film gives you some basic information about the KTH Innovation Department.

The KTH Innovation Department aims to connect research and ideas to business and industry. One of the ways they can do this is by fostering entrepreneurship among students and organizations.

In the blog film, you will be able to see an example from a start up company from Student Incubator that supported by the KTH innovation department, as well as different offers that you can get as a student from KTH.

I hope you find it interesting and get some useful information from this video. More importantly, I hope you like it! :)
