Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course is designed to help the participants develop the skills required for communicating and working successfully in intercultural contexts, both in physical and virtual professional environments. The course gives an introduction to the field of intercultural and global skills and highlights the relevance, applications and effects of technology in different professional contexts. The course is conducted online, with assignments, laboratory sessions, and seminars.

Intended learning outcomes

After passing the course, the student should be able to:

1. analyse the effects of technology, including digital tools and digital working environments, on intercultural interactions and their consequences in different professional environments.

2. reflect on personal experiences and cultural perspectives in order to develop self-awareness and adaptability for successful intercultural communication and collaboration in physical and virtual working environments.

3. document and communicate intercultural experiences, challenges and lessons learnt in professional environments in order to support personal growth, professional development, and increased employability.

Learning activities

The course runs over seven weeks, starting on 25 August 2025. From the first day, readings and weekly assignments are available in Canvas, and these are to be submitted online throughout the course. In addition, there are two mandatory webinars:

  • Tuesday 2 September, 13:00–15:00

  • Tuesday 23 September, 13:00–15:00

Both sessions will be held in Zoom. Links will be provided in Canvas. Please note that you need to log in with your KTH account (SSO, domain kth-se) in order to participate.

Apart from these scheduled webinars, the course is designed for flexible and self-paced study. You are responsible for planning and scheduling your own learning activities week by week, ensuring that you keep up with the readings and submit assignments on time.

To participate fully in the course, you need access to a computer with a stable internet connection. A functioning webcam and microphone are required for the webinars.

Examination

  • LEXA - Continous assessment, 3.0 credits, grading scale: P, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Other requirements for final grade

Examination format and detailed grading criteria and assignments are to be described in the course memo before the start of the course

Ethical approach

  • All members of a group are responsible for the group's work.
  • In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used.
  • In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
