Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

Exercises in understanding and expressing oneself in somewhat more nuanced Swedish. Exercises in spoken communication and oral presentations Reading of authentic texts that concern society, work and technology. Production of written texts on a variety of subjects within the student's fields of interest.

Intended learning outcomes

The intended learning outcomes for the course refer mainly to the level B1 according to CEFR, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and aim to strengthen the student's global competence.

On completion of the course, the student should, in addition to what is specified in courses at lower levels, be able to:

Listening comprehension
1. Understand the contents of clearly spoken standard Swedish about subjects as for instance work and technology
2. Understand conversations and longer oral presentations such as a simple argumentation on familiar subjects, provided the language is not too formal and advanced

Reading comprehension
3. Understand authentic texts written in high-frequent language that concern society, work and technology

Spoken interaction
4. Talk and argue informally about subjects concerning daily life, current events and work, or of personal interest

Spoken production
5. Retell courses of events and describe impressions and experiences concerning daily life and fields of personal interest

Written production
6. Write texts on a variety of subjects within his/her fields of interest and emphasise the personal relevance of events and experiences

Language systems

7. Apply for the level adequately phonetic/orthographic, morphological, syntactic and lexical knowledge in the Swedish language

  • LEX1 - Continous Assessment, 6.0 credits, Grading scale: P, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

The examiner determines, in consultation with the KTH coordinator for support to students with disabilities (Funka), possible customized examination for students with any documented and permanent functional disability. The examiner may offer a different type of exam for re-examination of individual students.
