The overall objective is to put forward, discuss and critically examine methods for analysing and evaluating architecture and urban design. After the course the participants shall be able to carry out a systematic evaluations based on theory and methods within the field of architecture.

Course contents *

The course contains lectures, exercises and and project work. The lectures are dealing with evaluation theory and practical oriented methods that are used in professional assessment of environments. The project work means that the students in the course shall apply an evaluation method on a specific environment and present the result to the other participants in the course. 

Intended learning outcomes *

The overall objective is to put forward, discuss and critically examine methods for analysing and evaluating architecture and urban design. After the course the participants shall be able to carry out a systematic evaluations based on theory and methods within the field of architecture. 

Course Disposition

The course contains lectures dealing with the following themes:Evaluation theory; Assessment of architecture competitions; Walking-throw-method; Semantic models; SAVE-method and DIVE-method; Place-analyses; Space Syntax.

The project work means that the participants shall carry out an individual task. The project must be planned in cooperation with the teachers. The project consists of a written paper (article/essay). The project work shall be presented and discussed at a special seminar.

University studies of 60 credidts (hp) and Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6 or equivalent.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
