Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The thesis should be part of an in-depth-study in the chosen field of technology in order to meet the requirements for a degree at an advanced level. This means that the thesis normally will be carried out within the field of science for which the students have been prepared during ordinary courses. If the student wants to carry out his or hers thesis work outside the field of technology or education program, then this must be approved by the person in charge of undergraduate studies.

Intended learning outcomes

The students shall:
- be able to apply relevant knowledge and skills acquired during previous courses within this field of engineering science.
- within a given framework, even with limited information, independently analyze and discuss complex issues, and deal with major problems at an advanced level in this field of technology.
- reflect on and critically review their own and others' scientific achievements.
- be able to document and present their work for a given target group, with good standards regarding structural, formal and language processing.
- be able to identify the need for further knowledge and continuously upgrade their skills.

Literature and preparations

Specific prerequisites

In general, the major portion of the studies, at least 240 credits (or at least 210 credits if the degree refers to the previous system with a total of 270 credits) must be completed before the thesis work may begin. The examiner must ensure that the student has the knowledge depth referred to above and that the student has done most of the required studies before the thesis work begins. Deviations from these rules can only be granted after review of the person in charge of undergraduate studies. The thesis work shall normally be conducted during the last semester.
