Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

How macroeconomic variables are interrelated

  • Exchange rates, deflation, inflation, prices and inflation
  • Focus on empirical macroeconomics
  • Technology development, innovation, competitiveness and growth
  • International trade, direct investment and globalization
  • Monetary and fiscal policy
  • Financial markets, labor and product market
  • Compile, analyze and report on macroeconomic data orally and in writing

Intended learning outcomes

Learning outcomes for the participants after completion of the course are to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to relate theoretical macroeconomic models to policy issues
  • Show a broad knowledge of the subject macroeconomics
  • Using macroeconomic theory and empirical data to generate decision support
  • Individually and together with other analyze, reason and communicate on issues related to macroeconomic variables both in writing and verbally
  • Selecting appropriate macroeconomic models and empirical methods for analyzing macroeconomic phenomena
  • Show an ability to reflect on how economic shocks affect aggregate economic performance in the short and long term

Specific prerequisites

A completed Bachelor's degree including at least 30 credits in mathematics/economics and documented proficiency in English B or equivalent (TOEFL, IELTS eg).

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
