The course covers the basics for design, construction, operation and maintenance of railway track and track substructures.

Intended learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to understand:

  • the basics in design and construction of railway tracks.
  • geometry and substructure of tracks, track material selection, vibrations and track damages.
  • basic concepts on the operation and maintenance of railway tracks, railway bridges and tunnels.

Specific prerequisites

150 university credits (hp) in engineering or natural sciences, documented proficiency in Swedish corresponding to Swedish B, and documented proficiency in English corresponding to English B.
