Intended learning outcomes

Basic knowledge in economics, investment analysis and accounting.

The course has four parts with the following goals:

Business administration: accounting:

- Be able to read and understand a yearly reports and know what various financial performance indicators reflect.

Business administration: investment analysis:

- Be able to make simpler investment calculation with different methods, nominal and real calculation, calculation with and without loans. Know what determines the rate of return demanded..

Microeconomics

- Be able to analyze markets using demand and supply curves, know the fundamental models of consumer and firm behavior and different forms of market failure and microeconomic policies.

Macroeconomics

- To know about theories about determinants of economic growth, and the factors that affect the business cycle, interest rates and the exchange rate. Theories behind macroeconomic policies.

Literature and preparations

Specific prerequisites

For single course students: completed upper secondary education including documented proficiency in Swedish corresponding to Swedish B, English corresponding to English A. For students who received/will receive their final school grades after 31 December 2009, there is an additional entry requirement for mathematics as follows: documented proficiency in mathematics corresponding to Mathematics A.

  • Exercise material handed out at tutorials. In Swedish.

Required readings are sometimes changed, titles given above should be seen as examples for guidance in determining the level of the course.

Examination

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
