Content and learning outcomes
The degree project should treat a, from a media technology perspective, interesting problem. For the assignment to be appropriate as degree project, there must to be interesting issues from the subject area to investigate. The emphasis of the work should lie on investigation and analysis. Possibly practical work, for example programming, should be of subordinate importance and aim for examining questions at issue.
Included in the work is to make a precise specification and time plan for the assignment and to search and read literature relevant for the degree project. The extent should be such that it is clear that the student has worked half-time during a semester. The work should be presented in writing in a report and be presented in speech. Compulsory supervision meetings will occur.
Intended learning outcomes
The student should after completed Bachelor's degree project in media technology be able to
- apply skills and knowledge acquired in the field of media technology on a problem
- identify, formulate and solve problems and carry out assignments within given time frames
- reflect on, evaluate and critically discuss one's own scientific results and those of others
- based on a given problem formulation, choose, adapt and combine different methods as well as be able to justify and reflect critically about these choices
- search, collect, evaluate and critically interpret relevant information for a problem
- give an account of and discuss information, problems and solutions
- identify their need of additional knowledge and to develop their skills
- independently work within the field of media technology
- make assessments in the field of media technology informed by relevant disciplinary, social and ethical issues
- in speech and writing account for and discuss information, problems and solutions in dialogue with different audiences.
Literature and preparations
Of the compulsory courses in the master of science in engineering programme in media and communication technology (CMETE) in year 1 and year 2 and the course DM1595 Software development for interactive media, at least 102 credits must be completed by 1 November.
Examination and completion
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
- MET1 - Methods, 3.0 credits, grading scale: P, F
- XUPP - Exam project, 12.0 credits, grading scale: P, F
Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

- All members of a group are responsible for the group's work.
- In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used.

Main field of study
From the spring semester 2021, new specific prerequisites apply, which are evident from this official course syllabus. Students who have started their studies before 01/07/2018 should, during a transitional period until the expiration of the autumn semester 2022, be considered to be qualified for admission if they meet the requirements for specific prerequisites that were set before the spring semester 2021 (that is, at least 75 % of the compulsory credits from year 1, year 2 and period 1 in year 3 should be completed by November 1). For course offerings starting from the spring semester 2023, only the specific prerequisites of the current official course syllabus will apply.
