Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course consists of five seminars organised around central concepts, methods and references within architectural technology considered as a technical, historical and cultural field. In addition there are two tasks that rely on deeper studies in the area: a review of a central work (which is agreed upon with the course leader and may include written, designed, or built works or other forms of technology), and an essay or project work in wich an independent application of the subject area is developed in relation to the students´s own planned or ongoing research project. The project work can include visual, auditory, physical or virtual design work, but should also include a critically reflective written component. The tasks are supervised in group and/or individually and presented in a final review session.

Intended learning outcomes

The specialisation course in Architectural Technology aims to:

  • Introduce basic concepts, methods and reference in architectural technology.
  • Further delve into studies of central works within the subject area.
  • In essay or project form develop an application of architectural technology in relation to one´s own planned or ongoing research project

Specific prerequisites

In order to follow the course a student must have completed a Masters´s degree in Architecture or adjoining fileds, or have an equivalent level of education. Priority is given to students enrolled at KTH or as doctoral students in architecture at other universities.

    Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

    Other requirements for final grade

    The course is examined through active participation in seminars and submissions, presentations and the writing of essays. Participation in all examining events is required, as well as the completion of all submissions and presentations. Examiner for each iteration of the course is defined in the course PM.
