Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course aims to develop the students´ knowledge of and in project work as a research form, to develop the skills in defining a project in relation to a reserarch question, and to develop the understanding of how project work relates to research practice. The course consists of a project work that includes planning, description, completion, and reflection of research in project form, for example research by design or through artistic research methods but also other kinds of projects can occur. Within the framework of the course the relation between the project work and research methodology and a scientific reasoning is discussed.

Intended learning outcomes

After the course, the student should be able to

  • Plan and carry out research work in project form
  • Define and refine projects in relation to a research question
  • Delimit research questions and amount of required work after project size
  • Apply theoretical knowledge on research methods in the form of a concrete project
  • On the basis of a limited project analyse results and production for continued theoretical development

Specific prerequisites

Prerequisites
In order to follow the course a student must have completed a Masters´degree in architecture or adjoining fields, or have an equivalent level of education. Priority is given to students enrolled at KTH or as doctoral students in architecture at other universitites.

    Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

    Examination of this course is mainly through project presentations, but also through supervision discussions throughout the project work. Examination also contains written parts. The extent of work involved in the course should be adpted to the number of credits and decided before the course starts. The course is graded pass/fail (P/F).
