Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course includes several activities. These activities aim to widen the student’s scientific knowledge to a high level of competence. In part I of this course the students were to learn the basics for research communication. In part II of the course they are expected to have reached a high level of excellence. The students in part II of the course are also to be good examples for the students in part I; act as mentors.

Intended learning outcomes

The goal of the course is that the student will reach a mature level with respect to research methodology and communication. Following the course the students shall:

- have knowledge in all the research areas within the PhD program Land and Water Resources.

- have an understanding how their research is interconnected to all the other areas within the institute.

- have reached an excellent ability in writing scientific articles and ability of evaluation of research articles, masters, licentiate and PhD thesis.

- have good knowledge and ability with respect to oral presentation of their research and opposition of other persons work.

Specific prerequisites

Accepted to the PhD program in Land and Water Resources Engineering and has a licentiate degree or completed a midterm seminar.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examination consists of an oral presentation by the student to the examiner; one to two hours oral discussion. The students are to present what they have done within the scope of the course and give an explanation of how the activities have strengthened and lead to reaching the goals of the course.
